Academic and Professional Interests
Dr. Crumpton is Manager of Visitor Experience at the Mayborn Museum Complex. He has worked at the Museum in some capacity since being hired to help move the collection as a student employee in 2003, when the Mayborn was being built. Trey was hired as full-time Collections staff in 2006, moving into management of permanent exhibit renovations in 2015. He now leads the visitor services team in addition to exhibit master planning efforts.
Dr. Crumpton’s research interests center on interpretation in natural and cultural history, particularly backyard biodiversity and the human-ecological relationship. His leadership studies research focuses on the value of university museums as places for transformational dialogue. How can campus museums serve as assets to their community, whether through serving families, adult learners, or as places to disseminate current university research?
Trey’s other professional experience includes program development and session presentations for the Texas Association of Museums Annual Conferences, and service on various boards, including the Museum Association of Waco, Heart of Texas Urban Gardening Coalition, and Independence Historical Society. He is a certified Texas Master Naturalist, with experience collecting, preparing, and interpreting natural science specimens. Fundraising and donor relations have been an important part of exhibits development, and his leadership on renovation projects is built upon the foundation of education he received at Baylor.
What is your favorite museum?
My current favorite place is the Charles Darwin Research Station on Isla Santa Cruz, Galapagos, Ecuador. I had an amazing opportunity to visit the Baylor summer Anthropology field program on the islands, and the curatorial staff gave us a great tour of the collection and museum.
