Students
Undergraduate Program
Students who have completed the baccalaureate major or minor have secured jobs at many museums and cultural institutions or completed graduate study in museum studies or related fields such as library science or archival enterprise.
Major
The BA in Museum Studies prepares Baylor students for careers in museums, cultural organizations, and related non-profit institutions. Students have an opportunity to build a solid foundation in museum education, collections management, curation, and administration, as well as the opportunity to concentrate in any one of these areas or in museum-related research.
Minors
The Minor in Museum Studies provides students with other majors a solid introduction to the museum field, to different aspects of the museum profession, and to the study of artifacts of aesthetic or historic significance.
The Minor in Informal Education, offered in partnership with the School of Education’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction, prepares undergraduate students for careers in museums, zoos, galleries, historical sites, parks, and other cultural sites that offer educational experiences for visitors.
Graduate Program
The MA in Museum Studies at Baylor University combines academic and professional training for the next generation of museum leaders. Students complete 15 hours of required courses, 15 hours of elective courses, and a 6-hour capstone experience, consisting of an internship, a professional project, or thesis.
Graduates of the program have secured jobs in museums and other cultural institutions working in variety of areas, including education, collections, administration, curation, and development.
The department also offers a graduate-level minor. The graduate minor requires nine semester hours.
Accelerated BA/MA Program
Students who complete the Joint BA/MA program earn a BA in Museum Studies, American Studies, Anthropology, Art and Art History, Journalism, or History, and a MA in Museum Studies. Rather than six years of study, students accepted into the program can complete both degrees in five years.
