Ms. Emily Clark
Lecturer in Museum Studies
Education
- M.A. Museum Studies, Baylor University
- B.S. Biology, Baylor University
Emily Clark is a lecturer of museum studies. She completed her M.A. in Museum Studies at Baylor University in 2016 and then joined the Mayborn Museum Education & Programs Team shortly thereafter. Her first task was to develop and open the Mayborn’s making and tinkering space, Design Den. After tinkering in Design Den for three years, she then moved into a management role overseeing the Museum Engagement Team, which provides STEM and cultural history programs for families and schoolchildren and houses the Spark Team, the museum’s day-to-day floor staff made up of Baylor student employees. Most recently, Ms. Clark has moved from a part-time adjunct lecturer into a full-time role with the Museum Studies Department as a lecturer. Her goal in teaching students has been to foster in them an understanding and appreciation of the museum’s role in society, hoping to create lifelong learners who either work in museums or are museum members, volunteers, and/or board members.
Ms. Clark’s professional career has focused on informal science learning, family learning, making and tinkering, and the museum field’s approaches to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. She has worked with making and tinkering organizations like Maker Ed and Makey Makey and with other museum makerspaces at Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, Thinkery, and Children’s Museum of Houston. She has served as Secretary on the Executive Board for the Informal Science Education Association of Texas (ISEA), presented at multiple museum conferences, and led professional development for both formal and informal educators.
Emily especially loves to work with early learners, including her own early learner, three-year-old Thomas!
